Arrival - Dec. 29 2006

After one last dinner in Montreal with my dear sister, her boyfriend from California and a friend from Montreal, I went back to my place around 1 am to finish packing up. No matter how hard I tried, I was not able to carry less than two large suitecases, a medium carry-on bag and my laptop. By 4 am I was ready to take the cab to the airport shuttle and from there everything went very smoothly. My flights were on time and I arrived precisely at the moment that was planned. I was stunned to see how many gaijin were traveling with me. Actually, there were more foreigners than Japanese! It was the first time I flew in a large plane (Boeing 777). Was I ever so glad to be greeted by a friend at the airport to help me carry all that baggage. 2 more hours of travel and I finally got to see my superb Japanese style appartment. (See photos). It is much better than I expected! Tomorrow I have to take care of some essentials: Japanese-English electronic dictionary and cellphone!

Hello,
I realize it's been a while since your semester abroad to Japan, but I'm a current Concordia student investigating the ISEP program, and I'm definitely intrigued by Japan as a destination.

I have heard, however, that Japan is extremely expensive. Not sure if this is taboo or not, but I'm wondering how much it cost you to stay for the semester? (including dorm, food, entertainment, etc)

I was also wondering about the dorm... was there an option for a private room, or are roommates mandatory? In the event that you have a guest coming from out of town, was there an option to have them spend the night in your dorm room, or did they have to stay elsewhere?
